Coverage & Application

ProNature Wood Cleaner:

  • Shake well.
  • Use mutton cloth or scrubbing pad (for heavy dirt)
  • Heavy dirt: leave to penetrate for 5-10 minutes
  • Wipe off with clean water. OUTDOOR: Coverage:
  • Approximately 20-30 m²/litre per single application on new timber.
  • Application rates depend on the substrate, type of processing and surface quality.
  • Exact consumption needs to be established with on-site test coat.
For optimum durability apply 3 coats.

Application:

  • VIDEO LINK: https://www.pronature.co.za/tips-tricks/
  • Product is ready to use.
  • Do not dilute. (However, depending on the type of wood, thinning the first coat by 10% with ProNature Plant Turpentine may be required.)
  • Surfaces previously coated: remove all coating by sanding/paint stripper.
  • Sand the surface to 100 – 150 grit. Remove dust thoroughly.
  • Stir well with flat paddle until pigments and oil are completely combined. (Shaking won’t do it!)
  • Apply liberally using brush or short bristle paint roller (or wipe with cloth) until saturation is reached.
  • Rub off any excess oil thoroughly that has not been absorbed after about 10 min using a lint-free cloth like ProNature Mutton Cloth.
  • Leave to dry for a minimum of 6 hours and if necessary – lightly sand the surface before applying the next coat, repeating the same process: apply, let it penetrate and rub off excess.
  • The finish will take about 7 days to fully cure. Avoid standing water or any other liquids and wet cleaning (only sweeping instead) during this period. NB: Cold weather and/or high humidity will prolong the drying process.

  • Maintenance Schedules and Recommendations for Exterior and
  • Interior wooden surfaces (i.e. decking, pergolas, door and window frames) treated with ProNature Outdoor:

To keep timber in its original colour and to avoid degradation through the elements it is necessary to use suitable cleaners, e.g., ProNature Wood Cleaner to carry out REGULAR to maintenance. As always proper preparation is the key to success. Please follow the following instructions and recommendations to ensure long life of your wooden surfaces.

Surface preparation:

Prior to applying ProNature Outdoor the timber should be prepared by ensuring it is clean and free of grease and mould. Cleaning is made easy with the help of ProNature Plant Soap Concentrate. Sand to a smooth and even finish (insufficient sanding will be highlighted especially when sealing with a darker colour) if necessary.

Application:

  • Stir material well before application.
  • For maintenance ProNature Outdoor (choose same colour as was used for the original coating) is applied liberally using a brush or roller.
  • To avoid glossy spots and prolonged drying it is necessary to remove any excess thoroughly that has not been absorbed after about 10 min using a lint-free cloth.
  • Leave to dry for a minimum 6 hrs.
  • Only surfaces, which are subject to extreme weather conditions, should receive an additional coating after a 24- hour drying period.

In general, it is adequate to apply a single coat of ProNature Outdoor for maintenance purposes. More coats may become necessary if maintenance had been neglected and the original coating has completely deteriorated. In this case it is recommended to re-apply ProNature as described in our technical data sheet or on the product container.

Maintenance Intervals:
It is recommended to regularly check all surfaces for deterioration of the oiled surfaces especially within the first year after application.
Have defaults become visible maintenance should commence immediately to avoid further damage.

It is recommended to have the first maintenance run within 6 months to a year after the original installation. Experience shows that this first maintenance run is the most important and extents the time to the next maintenance application substantially and re-coating is, depending on exposure, probably only necessary every two years.

Darker colours (i.e., ProNature Outdoor dark brown or chestnut) have a better durability than a ProNature Outdoor natural clear.

We trust this information to be satisfactory. Should you, however, need further information please do not hesitate to contact the ProNature Team.
