Mineral pigments!

It is simply amazing what Mother Earth has in store for us. Rich, beautiful colours, delicate hues and subtleness for any quick tint.

Mineral pigments are natural, inorganic substances derived from minerals, often used in art, cosmetics, and industrial applications.

Natural Mineral Pigments:

Iron Oxide: Red, yellow, brown, and black pigments.

Carbonates: Green and blue pigments.

 Chromium Oxide: Green pigment

Titanium Dioxide: White pigment.

Ultra-Marine Blue: Derived from Lapis Lazuli.

Cinnabar: Red pigment.

But what makes these mineral pigments so valuable and superior to ordinary synthetic pigments and dyestuffs?

Lightfastness – Resistance to fading or colour change when exposed to light and Durability – Resistance to weathering, chemicals, and wear.

Best examples for lightfastness and durability are the bushman drawings, still looking amazing after hundreds of years being exposed to the elements.

Mineral pigments find use in painting and printmaking. Even cosmetics utilise the credentials in make-up and skincare. But most are really used in coatings, plastics and construction materials where they have proven their mettle for centuries.

Our mineral pigments let us offer a range of 60 standard colours, but thousands of unique hues have been created over the past decades to enable the industry to finish surfaces in the desired tint. To this day we are permanently creating new trendy shades and assist on projects where colour-matching or a quick tint is required.

Colour-matching is an art form and is not easily acquired and may take years of training to perfect. A quick tint takes the trained eye of an expert colour matcher to identify the pigments needed to achieve a certain shade of colour.

We at ProNature have the expertise and patience to create customised colours for design houses and can fulfil all the “crazy” ideas of designers, architects and manufacturing clients by utilising the versatility of our natural mineral pigments.
