VOCs & Sustainability: Our Natural Approach
You may have heard about VOCs — volatile organic compounds — and their link to indoor air quality and pollution. Most conventional paints contain synthetic VOCs derived from petroleum, which can linger in the air and affect your health. At ProNature, we do things differently. Whilst most ProNature products are VOC free some do contain VOCs – but only natural ones like Genuine Gum Turpentine and Orange Peel Oil, both naturally occurring terpenes.
These compounds are:
– Biodegradable and part of the natural carbon cycle
– Derived from renewable sources, not crude oil
– Short-lived in the environment and safer with good ventilation
Many traditional industrial solvents (like toluene, xylene, or naphtha) are VOCs that contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone and smog when they react with nitrous oxides (Nox) in the presence of sunlight. Using d-limonene, a biogenic VOC found in Orange Peel Oil, as a low-VOC alternative, helps reduce the total VOC emissions that can react with NOx. Unlike most brands that reduce synthetic VOCs and call it “eco-friendly,” we’re committed to full transparency — and to creating products that genuinely protect both your wellbeing and the world we live in.
